Dayao. A.WAY. 2013 - The Day I Became Moustache Girl

Finally i'm blogging about Dayao now after soooo many dayyysss. Sorry for the delay :p
So, what's Dayao anyway ?
Dayao stands for 大型摇篮手创作歌曲发表演绎会, it's the biggest project of Yao Lan Shou every year and of course Yao Lan Shou is the beloved song composing unit of PBCUM.
Basically, all the Dayao songs are student's self compose. Before this holy day, we have to go to band room to practice and find the best way to present the song. It's not easy at all, especially when our event has been pushed earlier form 18th April to 2nd April. It's very rushing, but we have put i our best effort and most importantly, all of us enjoyed till the max !
The outcome is certainly important, but what matters most would be what we've learned throughout the whole period.

Previously, i was already quite active with YLS's activity. From the orientation day, till Dayao. The only I missed out was only 校创(Intravarsity Song Composing Competition), not really miss, just the fact that my song was not selected. Haha *damn mempersiasuikan* Though i'm the only junior in my college who joined YLS, but I never failed to attend their activities. From the first activity i attended, I already knew this is something I want to join, I wanted to be. Here's the place, i told myself. Despite being a loner, who always go alone, but from heart i admire and i knew i would enjoy here.
Some seniors like Louisa ( my kiwi grandma), they knew I love to sing and told me I have to join Dayao. My desire to shine on stage has never faded, so i went to the Audition and tried.

But, I always have this problem, I don't know what song should I sing when it comes to a formal/proper audition. Normally, I would just hum or sing whatever song that came across my mind, very spontaneously. Let's say if you mention about “一万年”，I would probably sing "爱你一万年”; if you mention about "lonely", I would probably sing "Mr. Lonely".. anything.. But when you ask me to figure out what songs i'm good singing at, I can't really tell you /.\ *fail*
True, so i actually went unprepared, sowiiieee, but i rmb i sang my all time fav, "只要你快乐“and "The Show" which I just practiced a minute before. Very unsteady la ! And then "the panel of judges" asked me to sing some song with high notes to show my voice range, and i end up singing "Sonata Musim Salju" for the audition. I couldn't believe i did this, that was the time when i was busy for F.I.N, so i unbelievably did it for a almost all chinese songs concert audition. Fabulous. They even asked me to try singing "记得”,and also the transpose and 和音part, no idea of the name, sort of like singing alto and tenor part in a choir, where you have to sing 3 keys higher or lower. I've got zero sense in that okay, they also checked on my tempo, by clapping my hands according to the beat of the music. Ya, i knew. Tempo was my worst thing, from playing piano to singing, my tempo is never right. -.-  And that i thought i screwed it completely, as I see some shaking their heads while I was singing. T.T I came back and emo for 2 days le !!!

Till, I received a message. " Congratulations ! You're selected as emcee and singer, please do come to our family gathering on this thursday, 8.30pm at Block U, Engineering Faculty." I was ASTONISHED. serious, no joke and i fishyly replied the message " hahahahhah ! are you serious ??!! " till Milo told me it's true. Then I was singing all the way to toilet, to class. I know i'm very kampung la. Happy marh, like something you thought you lost it and you actually gained all you want! "

Being emcee is actually something i wanted too ! As we have to choose a bureau/department if you're selected as performer, and luckily the emcee is a solo department. Most people who knew me, is well informed that I've always been the emcee for Mandarin Society during my secondary school time, like always, even for Prefect Night and Prefect Installation Day. I love to sing and I love to speak. Getting these 2 posts is something really wonderful and amazing ! :D

Before really getting into band room for practice, we went for an event organized by the old seniors of YLS (老鸟）" 老鸟归巢日". Really enjoyed a lot, it was 1st March i rmb, fortunately got a rest day after practicing so hard for MKTH and Feseni Dance. It was very stressful, and this event really made my day. Enjoyed so much ! It feels like sitting by Starbucks, indulging a cup of Hot Mocha, reading up some novels. Arggghhh, I feel home. *awwwww*

And then, we went through the 2nd round audition, and I was assigned for 2 songs, one of it is the song I wanted to sing very much, as the genre is very lively, vivace, very different from the usual emo songs I would sing, like Stefanie Sun's, wanted to try something different ! And the other song was the theme song, " There Is Away". I feel extremely lucky as i'm the only first year who get to sing this, like WOW ! theme song eh, kai wan xiao ! I feel so blessed !

Besides being selected as emcee and singer, I was also assigned band manager for Band Y. I have to liase the practice with band leader and singers, and also arrange the transport well lo. Not a big deal, but really learned something. Also have to apologize la for being late sometimes :p It was accidental, the alarm i set, was accidentally set to 6am. OOPS. hehe.

After weeks of practicing, finally it's time to show what we have ! :D
It was held at Auditorium, KPS, although it was a bit small, but it's giving the satisfaction when you see it's all flooded with people and some old birds complained that they have to sit on floor. Sorry, i know i might sound mean, but i feel so excited to hear this !! xDDDD HAHAHAHHA,sorry la old birds.:P The committees prepared like 5 rows for them, but still they have to sit on floor, Yo ! So many ppl la !

The theme for this year's Dayao was "A.Way", which you can interpret it in 2 ways, away or a way. It gives the definition of Music is the way, and Music could lead you to a better place, which brings you calm and happiness, and to leave all your sorrows. It's a very interesting and meaningful theme :)

Now, BACK BACK BACK !  Back to the actual day.

 Wow, they look so angelic here. The song they perform was “树” (Tree), also received very good comments and the only song mentioned in the newspaper ! It was about the recycling issue, something that all of us should have well awareness.

Ya la, I sound envious la, yang datang support I pun kitten 3/2 biji, of course i EMO lo. Knowing that they will be very cute, so I choose to be very handsome. (luckily they didn't do gyiyomi Hahaha)

Garbage of election? No !

I have a sudden thought to blog today, inspired by the flags of the political parties hanging around. Like nowadays, we're all surrounded by flags, yes, flags. Look around you, put your head out of your window and what you see are flags.

It's everywhere.
The first question that popped out of my brain is :
" Are they gonna recycle and reuse it?" 
" Is it necessary? "

Today's post will only focus on this topic, nothing more, just wanna focus on this matter. Let's put other issues like the so called "1M charity concert" aside.

Back to the topic, there are so many flags around, and what I see that they're in a quite good condition, which means they're newly made I think. I couldn't be sure of what I'm saying as i have no solid proof that they're not recycling it, these are all my own empirical assumptions. So let's assume that they're new.

Look around you, flags everywhere. Why are they even using it? I mean what's the point of using it and what's the function? To promote for that particular party?

Why promote it? Is there anyone who doesn't know about the existing political party? The parties that have been ruling in your state and your country? Come on, there might be but I'm sure it only happens in rural area.( no discrimination on rural people) I mean yes, they might not know, and there is possibility that they will only vote for the party which has the logo they see in their housing area. There is, but, if they don't even care about the politics and have zero knowledge about it. Would they vote? I doubt that. Let's say if there's any party who buy their votes, then what for are you hanging all the banners, flags around? They knew who they're told to vote. Right? Make sense? I didn't say that hanging banners and flags are bad, but as long as they see it, it's enough. Why flood the area with all this stuffs? It's not necessary at all. I'm not trying to be bias, but you can see it yourself. Compare the ratio.

Let's count ! I see 13 PR flags, and 36 BN flags.
Ratio ? 1: 2.769 
And don't forget, the PR flags consists of 2 parties.
Like, seriously?
Are we blind or what? We can't see the blue thing or is it just invisible?

Next point, it's reasonable to have flags and banners hung during election period. True, but since you gonna use it like every 5 years? Why not just keep it and use it again after 5 years? I don't think that the flags and stuffs will be spoiled or torn out or anything by just hanging it less than 2 months. One thing i hate most about election is, you gonna see the flags and banners all simply dumped. All dumped like trash as if they have no second value. Really? Don't forget you gonna need them in the next election.We're not gonna have different parties that run for election. Mind it,  If the flags with the candidates' name cannot be reuse, how about the plain party flags? Since you have to hire people to take them off after the election period, why not you just hire them to take it off nicely and keep them neatly, and put it back at respective candidate's office maybe? You don't see new political party standing out for election, right? So this GE 13 we will have Abu Party, Ah Lee Party and Indra Party, and for the coming GE14, you will not see these parties anymore, coz we gonna have Roti Canai Party, Nasi Lemak Party and Food Party. -.- I know it's lame, but i don't see the necessity.

Like since you gonna use your energy to litter, why not put them into the dustbin nicely? 
Ok, it may takes a lot of space to keep it, D: Like 1/20 of your room/office space, But it's gonna use the same space size to dump it too. The whole world produces 450 hundred millions tonnes of garbage every year and on average, 1232876712.328 kilos per day. D:
Why jeopardize when you can't do any good?

Well, you might say it's because PR isn't the ruling party yt, and they don't have the capital or ability to do so. If PR wins, they will do so in the next election.

Initially my plan was to blog about the recent Dayao thingy right after i finish with my mid-term, which is today. But all mood gone just right after i finish the paper, it was disastrous. I didn't go back home for my mid-term break, instead, i stayed here for whole one week long, just to do my assignments. Although it was not fully utilized, ( it will never as the subconscious mind will keep reminding you it's holiday ) Well but at least, i did something. Well, at least something. Bad but not too bad, compared to staying at home. It will end up getting fat ONLY, being potato couch and yc all the day. As mentioned, not so disciplined during the break but i did study for the 2 tests in this week, Macroeconomics and Microeconomics II.

Supposed to study 4 chapters for Macroeconomics, knowing it's not easy. I was so confused with the notes, it's all different with the text book and tutorial work. I was like "how am i gonna study this thg?" And finally i managed to derive the formula and able to find out the correct way to use it, like whole page of formulas, like this:

So, in short, i spent a lot of time on the first 2 chapters and few on the last 2 chapters. When i finished the paper, i feel like banging my head. Coz the 30 MCQ questions were all non-related to the first 2 chapters. The lecturer discussed it straight after she collected the paper from us. Everyone dog-cried, like WALAO EH. The whole class was half dead, and i was already dead.

I was so down, but i kept on telling myself don't give up, there's still hope ! Let's work hard on Thursday's paper, Microeconomics. It's not easy to move on. Not at all. But then, I managed to focus for my next paper Microeconomics. Now, this time I have to study 3 chapters. So I started studying, in detail, to understand it. I went to slp at 12am the day before, but was so stressed that i could only sleep at 2am. So, i postponed my alarm clock from 5am to 6.30am. AND, was too stressed, that i woke up myself at 5am. No matter how hard i try to rest awhile more, still, wide awake. So, i just continue to study and do revision, what to do? Then i went back for a short nap at 7.30am and woke up 2 hours later. Went for class and sat for exam at 11am.

I was kinda like smiling, finally feeling relieved that this paper was not too badly done. But when i go for the next tutorial class, only i realized that the questions are actually the same as the exam questions. I thought it was the same, so i simply did it like how i did in exam. Then, the tutor picked a few students to show their working and answers on the whiteboard. I WAS STUNNED. kantoi lah. ALL WRONG ! Habislah, there gone my hope. My spirit ! That finally worked hard and really have some expectation. I feel really down lo. Damn EMO. WAHKAO, already stayed here during mid-sem break, already slept for few hours only, wanna treat me like this meh?

I really gone speechless, at that moment, I really wanna blog everything and let all my sadness and anger out. But i'm stucked with class again. Went back late and also distracted with dramas ( to console my broken heart), then lost all the words I wanna chuck it. This is the best I could do for today.

FESENI #Part 2

Why is there soooo many part 2 ? Yorhhh, tak habis-habis cerita. Supposed to be a 17th March post but...I was really busy... :p though it's already very late to blog about this, but cannot, i have to finish this. what a perfectionist ._.

So the part 2 was about Feseni Choir that i took part, i have to admit that i actually didn't put in much effort because during the same period i was all busy practicing and preparing for dance. And i neglected this very much, i have to apologize for not giving my full 100% commitment. At first, i thought i could balance out, but i failed. To be exact, i only start practicing it after my Chinese Traditional Dance Competition. But thanks God, i was singing the Soprano part, so basically it's singing the melody only. I managed to catch up very fast, couldn't imagine if i'm doing the alto part. It would be difficult for me as i'm lack of the sense of doing a duet, like singing 3 keys higher or lower. I'm very bad at it.

By the way, since Feseni Chinese Dance Competition, and i found myself considerably good at doing the hair. So, i tied all 13 girls' hair.  My hand really cramped, and some were repeatedly done. I should consider of getting a part time hair stylist job. hmmm...
And the 2 songs we sang was " Selamat Pergi Pahlawanku" and "Mama Mia".


Nothing much to say about the competition. But I really wanted to say sorry to the manager, Marelyn.

"Kak May, sorry is the only word i could say, i know you had put in a lot of effort and try to make me and Joshua to attend the practice. You have been understanding, and giving us privilege for not attending the practices because of Chinese dance. Sometimes when there's no practice you'd text us and sort of like beg ask us to attend, i know it's not easy for you to be the manager. Already have to liase the practice time between the coach and us, and still sometimes we still didn't make it for practice. Sometimes, we're just too exhausted that we just wanted to rest for awhile after practicing. I knew i neglected this a lot and i've decided not to join Choir anymore as i couldn't commit, it's not fair to other members. Wishing you guys all the best and i have confidence in you all. Sorry and thank you."

" Kak Leo, I'm so sorry that I'm always absent for practice. Thank you for your patience and your effort, I can see that you have very high expectation on us. Thank you for not giving up on us even though everyone is looking down on us, thank you for coming everyday just to help us. Thank you for teaching us all this while and i'm really impressed with the actions you taught us on Saturday ( competition's on next day), it was really COOL. I love it so much, ATTITUDE ! And I'm feeling so sorry for not being able to break the curse for 12th's Choir team, I thought we could make it, but we failed. I feel very guilty for breaking your heart, and i couldn't work on it anymore since i'm not joining. But I can see the potential of the team, the spirit. The guys are very passionate, hoping the best for you all next year. More practice and a little bit of luck will do. :)"

" Thank you Grififth for helping us for the last few days. I thought you would give up on us, but you didn't and spent your precious time to help us to be better. I was really touched when you said you see the passion and the determination. Both you and Kak Neo are different, glad that I have chance to learn from you two. I really learn a lot from you, thank you. And I'm also sorry for disappointing you. Thank you and welcome to help with them at anytime you like, they'd be very glad to have you. "
