PDS*3

DAYAO has finally ended, beautifully, on 4th May 2015. Yes, coincidently it's 4th May again this year. When it ends, it also marks the beginning of #PDS, Post Dayao Syndrome. Though right now i'm really bad at writing and i've lost all my blogging skills, but still don't care i'm just gonna write. So, here it goes my PDS post. 

I'm actually currently in my third year and as a third year student meaning LIFE IS ALL ABOUT FYP a.k.a THESIS. I'm quite tied up with my thesis and slowly i'm letting go my positions in all of the organizations and passing them to my juniors. Also, being too hectic in my second year uni life, it literally did drained me off, so i'm trying to give myself a balance, though i'm still juggling between studies, work and events. I have my targets to hit; which is being able to maintain my result and also stabilize my hosting career, so i'm starting to host on freelance basis as well fyi i'm still working in 988 cruiser, with even more responsibilities, I was also the Administration Bureau Head for UMANY during campus election last year end. Everything is flooding me, and I was really stressed, preparing for mini concert, campus election, auditions, camp, thesis, I struggled, honestly, I had that one sec thought of not joining Dayao, but i slashed it off immediately. I asked myself, am I satisfied yet? am i willing to let go? was the one in 2014 gonna be the end? But the thought of letting go of Dayao makes my heartache, like pain, slashing off a piece from me. So I told myself, "Persevere no matter what comes in your way, because Dayao is what you love." That was how I make myself here in Dayao 2015.

I have to say, I might look very sociable, but the familiarity in Dayao to me was built between my batchmates, since year 1, and when i knew that most of them are not joining, left only Yu Hong, Seong Jiann and me, I was lost a bit. It takes time to familiarize yourself in a really new environment, true there were some juniors whom i knew, but still, the familiarity disappeared. I was not very confident that it's gonna be as good as ever, just like how juniors were uncertain about Dayao. But I'm so glad, juniors them all have the "dayaoness". Great great! I have to say the Dayao camp was awesome, it was all plain enjoyment and fun, had so much fun making a drama together with my groupmates. Talking about that, I have to mention about the task given to us, to make a production with acting, singing, and dancing, entitled "可爱的Bay Max" (The Cute Bay Max). So, Bay Max is already cute, the way to make it stand out is to completely think out of the box. So.....I had the idea of combining "Journey To The West" (西游记) and "Bay Max". The context was changed completely, and I was the one acting Tang Zeng, the sifu of Sun Wu Kong, that was soooooooo memorable until now after a few months, ppl are still asking me to eat vege. (吃斋, my frequent used words in the drama) With every steps taken, I gain more faith and grow together with the juniors.

The Theme for Dayao this year is "Lost徊", and my song was "那只Bee" (That Bee), I have to say I really don't fancy this song at first because it's not so much of my genre, and I actually hope that I could sing something more rockish or jazzy. I was initially assigned 2 songs, the other one was more like my genre and rockish (全方位的爱), but I had to pull out because my throat condition doesn't allow me to do so. Oh ya, I've been sick for a week before Dayao. I went to doctor twice and doc told me it's Viral Infection, and antibiotics couldn't help any, it has to depend solely on my body immunity, only will recover with nutritious food and good rest. However, it's the busiest week before Dayao, and even though my voice was cracky and bassy, it doesn't sound really bad on performing day, giving a lil special vocal to the Bee Song. I can't really feel the songas the lyrics was quite direct until I changed the whole concept to a drama, with the "Bee" personified as an annoying man/admirer. Thank you to my partner Jun Giap, backup vocalist Gabriel, Pei Ying and Stanley for cooperating with me and making this bee song a special story. Not forgetting the awesome musicians of Band C-Krets, of course. credit later, lemme finish this part first. xD

Let's see my transformation in Dayao from 1st year to 3rd year. From acting as a guy, to a sexy lady and back to a twin pony-tailed happy teen girl. Them tails that I have not ties for more than 10 years, but to make the story even more complete, I tied. I secretly hoping I could act like a goddess (even though I do not look like one), wearing white maxi gown, sitting down there, singing some jazzy melodies.....but I ended up looking like a primary school kid. Yeah, Pattern Queen ma. My goodness, couldn't believe how much it differs from my expectation. *covers my eyes* 

Okayhh, back back back. 
There are a few person I need to thank, first my successor Jacqueline and Alaric: 
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to both of you Jacqueline and Alaric, choosing both of you to be my successor was the rightest thing i did. Both of you are really committed and talented, and most importantly both of you cooperated pretty well, good job and well done! Now dayao is finally over, you both can finally have some rest, but it's nt over yet until you find your successor xD remember to discuss about potential junior with me ya, and both of you needa make smart decisions like me . Thank you for being great leaders and being so helpful in helping the junior! I might have stressed you two a bit, pai se la ya. Also, I know there are some choices and sacrifices you need to make, it's ok, i've been in your position, i can understand, after all it's all for the good of dayao, and came out pretty well! so no worries and i believed all the juniors enjoyed themselves and had very much fun! also, make sure the juniors stay ok? the most important thg about dayao is chuan cheng need to pass those spirits and passion to the new batch and make them all fall in love with the stage. Once again thank you and I love you both!!

Thanks Chen Onn for being such an awesome band leader, really like your way of leading, being strict and fun at the same time. Thought you're a very stubborn person and is hard to communicate with, but chehhhh, yuan lai. You dropped me a bombshell when you did the trailer instavideo for dayao. OMOOOOO. 老安哥摇屁股摇最厉害，吓死我。hahahhaha

Yu Hong, no words for you, coz you never write anythg sentimental for me. HAHAHHA, aiya same la, still as awesome as ever, I like your attitude when playing drums, and thanks for being fierce that our band was never late for practice after the first day. Always like to annoy me lo, but still I really appreciate you one, always gentleman as in taking care of girls la. Aiya, only you will remember im a girl in the end, and really take are of me. Thankkiiiuuu laaaaaa. Next year must join ok, coz we have no more drummers, you needa stay til you found 3. HAHHAHAH.

Pei Ying, good job as a singer manager, and a singer! I noticed you only get crazy when you're comfortable with the environment, like after familiarize with us all. Cannot leh, need to go 38 around ppl you don't know too. They said you're like me so you must be as 38 as I am too, hahhaha. Also, don't pai seh on your showmanship, you rocked the stage that day!

Done with crediting stuffs, back to my emo part now.

So, I had a good long sleep after Dayao and for the whole day I was happily scrolling fb to see photos that ppl tag me and juniors writing their feelings, enjoying #PDS. I was happy and bubbly until I saw my Band Leader Chen Onn posted his lengthy PDS post, I was laughing and crying at the same time. Suddenly I feel the sadness that hits me, telling me that there will be no more chance to perform in dayao anymore, that's the end. This is my last performance in Dayao ever. It feels so sad and I feel so reluctant to let go. It is something that grows together with you throughout the 3 years in uni. Next Dayao onwards, I will be sitting down the stage together with old birds and watch them juniors performing. I really need some time to get over with this.. I'm just feeling reluctant to leave the stage, I love stage, I love performing.. Ngawwww... I can do nothing, juniors pls let me know if you have any problem, I'll be willing to help, and wishing you all the best.....

PDS*2

So here it is my PDS post. Finally decided to post this despite knowing that i have tonnes of assignments to do. I'm just feeling motivated to do so, after seeing so many seniors posted about it, ahh, dun wanna lost the feeling i'm feeling right now. It took me 2 semesters of hard work to feel it ok. HAHHAHAH.
Hmm, gonna blog about it starting from the beginning till the end, so if you're not patient enough to read, just scroll through the pictures ok? It's gonna be long, i warn you first, i'm recording my feeling from the first till the end. :p

In case if you don't know, i was being selected as the Singer Head. I've/ We've been preparing for dayao like around 2 sem? A row of meetings, singers audition, mini concert, song selection, dayao camp, workshop, singer selection round 2, singer audition, band practice, singer test all the way until dayao. It's really tiring, no joke, damn stressful, i'm a person who is used to live under stress, ( yes, i am, i have a mutual relationship with stress, we benefit each other. zzz. ) *not being sarcastic seriously* but this time seriously no joke, but it also happens because i got all things crashing together. True la, my bad, nobody asked me to be such a kepochi and join so many stuffs. :(((

So all the burdens are on my shoulder since the day i agreed to accept this post, and it's worse because all of us wanted to make it back to the DTC stage, after being sickly traumatized by PDS last year. Ok, so all of us hold on this and never let it go even we faced so many hardships, from all aspects, management, skills, and relationships. I'm sorry that i'm a very stubborn person and i believed that i have given you all quite a hard time, but trust me, it wasn't done on purpose, i have my own reasons being stubborn. D: and i really wanna thank Yaslyn and Yu Hong for bearing with my bad temper, and though we had some quarrels but at last we were together and fight through the way. Thank you seniors esp Lek Meng, Chun Chyn, and Mi Zheng for always being supportive, giving me proper suggestions and advices, and lastly being brother enough to be my emotional trash bin. Thank you for spending time listening to my crap, i really need somewhere to release all my tension.

Talking about PDS, fyi, it means Post-Dayao Syndrome. in case if you got idea what it is.

It was very different. I felt really glad and relieved the show was a great success but PDS lasted for like less than 2 days?  First day, i was feeling quite empty and was still swimming through the positive feedbacks and memories we had. But the second day, my PDS ended, because it's time for post-mortem, instead of feeling reluctant, i feel more stressful of what i have not done well. Then, i adapted myself to negative comments and details of flaws of the entire performance i open-mindedly accepted the critiques from the seniors. Though still feeling stress about it aftermath, but feeling better after listening to sincere comments, i think i also learn a lot from that.

Seeing juniors still suffering from PDS, their passion and sense of belonging really touched me. I really treasure the moments spent with them; crazy supper, and getting out of the car and shake the butts at the traffic light in the middle of the road? Yes, we did this. xD "Once an Ark-Cloverian, forever an Ark-Cloverian." Heard that Yaslyn named this band after the Noah's Ark, she prayed that she's capable enough to hold them tgt, and yes, Yaslyn, you did that. It was a very amazing band. Juniors are all crazy and mentally attached to the band, and the friendship that is rooted among us shall never fade.

Also thanks to Dayao, i had the chance to do more live band performance and each of the opportunity gained me precious experience. I can see myself growing through each performing experience and of course through dayao. I'm a tougher and a stronger person now, all the tears have been shed worth it. Thank you everyone who came and supported me. I really appreciate your effort. :) and not forgeting to thank the crews behind the scene, multech and scenography dept have done very good job ! and thank you to Risyn ,Michelle and Kenny for making sure the programme flow runs smooth, Jinq Wen and Chun Wei for getting so many sponsors and thank you Yin Han for being so efficient at administrating, glad that i have known all of you. Dayao. A.WAY. 2013 - The Day I Became Moustache Girl

Finally i'm blogging about Dayao now after soooo many dayyysss. Sorry for the delay :p
So, what's Dayao anyway ?
Dayao stands for 大型摇篮手创作歌曲发表演绎会, it's the biggest project of Yao Lan Shou every year and of course Yao Lan Shou is the beloved song composing unit of PBCUM.
Basically, all the Dayao songs are student's self compose. Before this holy day, we have to go to band room to practice and find the best way to present the song. It's not easy at all, especially when our event has been pushed earlier form 18th April to 2nd April. It's very rushing, but we have put i our best effort and most importantly, all of us enjoyed till the max !
The outcome is certainly important, but what matters most would be what we've learned throughout the whole period.

Previously, i was already quite active with YLS's activity. From the orientation day, till Dayao. The only I missed out was only 校创(Intravarsity Song Composing Competition), not really miss, just the fact that my song was not selected. Haha *damn mempersiasuikan* Though i'm the only junior in my college who joined YLS, but I never failed to attend their activities. From the first activity i attended, I already knew this is something I want to join, I wanted to be. Here's the place, i told myself. Despite being a loner, who always go alone, but from heart i admire and i knew i would enjoy here.
Some seniors like Louisa ( my kiwi grandma), they knew I love to sing and told me I have to join Dayao. My desire to shine on stage has never faded, so i went to the Audition and tried.

But, I always have this problem, I don't know what song should I sing when it comes to a formal/proper audition. Normally, I would just hum or sing whatever song that came across my mind, very spontaneously. Let's say if you mention about “一万年”，I would probably sing "爱你一万年”; if you mention about "lonely", I would probably sing "Mr. Lonely".. anything.. But when you ask me to figure out what songs i'm good singing at, I can't really tell you /.\ *fail*
True, so i actually went unprepared, sowiiieee, but i rmb i sang my all time fav, "只要你快乐“and "The Show" which I just practiced a minute before. Very unsteady la ! And then "the panel of judges" asked me to sing some song with high notes to show my voice range, and i end up singing "Sonata Musim Salju" for the audition. I couldn't believe i did this, that was the time when i was busy for F.I.N, so i unbelievably did it for a almost all chinese songs concert audition. Fabulous. They even asked me to try singing "记得”,and also the transpose and 和音part, no idea of the name, sort of like singing alto and tenor part in a choir, where you have to sing 3 keys higher or lower. I've got zero sense in that okay, they also checked on my tempo, by clapping my hands according to the beat of the music. Ya, i knew. Tempo was my worst thing, from playing piano to singing, my tempo is never right. -.-  And that i thought i screwed it completely, as I see some shaking their heads while I was singing. T.T I came back and emo for 2 days le !!!

Till, I received a message. " Congratulations ! You're selected as emcee and singer, please do come to our family gathering on this thursday, 8.30pm at Block U, Engineering Faculty." I was ASTONISHED. serious, no joke and i fishyly replied the message " hahahahhah ! are you serious ??!! " till Milo told me it's true. Then I was singing all the way to toilet, to class. I know i'm very kampung la. Happy marh, like something you thought you lost it and you actually gained all you want! "

Being emcee is actually something i wanted too ! As we have to choose a bureau/department if you're selected as performer, and luckily the emcee is a solo department. Most people who knew me, is well informed that I've always been the emcee for Mandarin Society during my secondary school time, like always, even for Prefect Night and Prefect Installation Day. I love to sing and I love to speak. Getting these 2 posts is something really wonderful and amazing ! :D

Before really getting into band room for practice, we went for an event organized by the old seniors of YLS (老鸟）" 老鸟归巢日". Really enjoyed a lot, it was 1st March i rmb, fortunately got a rest day after practicing so hard for MKTH and Feseni Dance. It was very stressful, and this event really made my day. Enjoyed so much ! It feels like sitting by Starbucks, indulging a cup of Hot Mocha, reading up some novels. Arggghhh, I feel home. *awwwww*

And then, we went through the 2nd round audition, and I was assigned for 2 songs, one of it is the song I wanted to sing very much, as the genre is very lively, vivace, very different from the usual emo songs I would sing, like Stefanie Sun's, wanted to try something different ! And the other song was the theme song, " There Is Away". I feel extremely lucky as i'm the only first year who get to sing this, like WOW ! theme song eh, kai wan xiao ! I feel so blessed !

Besides being selected as emcee and singer, I was also assigned band manager for Band Y. I have to liase the practice with band leader and singers, and also arrange the transport well lo. Not a big deal, but really learned something. Also have to apologize la for being late sometimes :p It was accidental, the alarm i set, was accidentally set to 6am. OOPS. hehe.

After weeks of practicing, finally it's time to show what we have ! :D
It was held at Auditorium, KPS, although it was a bit small, but it's giving the satisfaction when you see it's all flooded with people and some old birds complained that they have to sit on floor. Sorry, i know i might sound mean, but i feel so excited to hear this !! xDDDD HAHAHAHHA,sorry la old birds.:P The committees prepared like 5 rows for them, but still they have to sit on floor, Yo ! So many ppl la !

The theme for this year's Dayao was "A.Way", which you can interpret it in 2 ways, away or a way. It gives the definition of Music is the way, and Music could lead you to a better place, which brings you calm and happiness, and to leave all your sorrows. It's a very interesting and meaningful theme :)

 Wow, they look so angelic here. The song they perform was “树” (Tree), also received very good comments and the only song mentioned in the newspaper ! It was about the recycling issue, something that all of us should have well awareness.
